「家族になりました」 (Kazoku ni Narimashita)
“We Became a Family”
Leave it to Dandadan to have an over the top dramatic exorcism. What an outrageous sight the ohayashi crew makes, channeling 80’s visual kei band style complete with an original, rocking tune. All the details were pitch perfect- Granny waving her wand in time to the music, the extravagant light show, and even the ghosts in the graveyard coming out to enjoy the show. Things certainly got spirited there for a moment.
The ending is rather anti-climactic, Granny calling the exorcism off after Jiji begs them to let Evil Eye live. Jiji’s spirit sense goes beyond supernatural powers (of course, he has that too), into sensing the spirit, that is, the heart of the spook. Having enormous powers the like of Jiji’s is a huge responsibility- used carelessly, it could cause a lot of damage to humans and spirits alike. Compassion is a part of that responsible usage. However, I think it makes him an even more shiny target to supernaturals- not only does he have a large source of energy, he’s also too kind to use it against them- a win-win situation for unsavory ones. Is it wise for Jiji to let Evil Eye live- is the small child longing for a playmate Evil Eye’s true nature, or is it merely a cover that Evil Eye wants Jiji to see? Only time will tell. I certainly hope it’s all for the best.
Jiji will have to learn to control Evil Eye sooner rather than later. It’s not sustainable for Jiji to be house-bound 24-7. It’s simply not healthy for him, especially with him being as outgoing as he is. Granny certainly thinks it’s possible with his inherent powers, plus with everyone else chipping in their assistance. So there’s hope there.
I like the community atmosphere as the whole gang came together to work with Evil Eye rather than against him, adapting themselves to make a place for him. Overall, a positive message- don’t eradicate the scary, learn to understand it and find a way to accommodate each other. Unfortunately, at the moment that also means having to accommodate roughing it out, with the house in shambles. They better have a good insurance policy on the house or some good connections, because, yikes.
I feel bad for Okarun. Having to listen to girls squabble over stealing toner and teeth grinding first thing in the morning. Then, getting dragged against his will to an after school hangout with Momo’s friends. That was honestly a pretty crappy thing of them to do. Okarun very clearly did not want to go- nothing funny about that. On top of that- they had to have known how embarrassed Momo would be, to have Okarun show up and see her in that state.

Dandadan 06
Seeing a Visual Kei band incorporated into an Anime like Dandadan is wild. This episode 1-ups every episode of Dandadan from last season to the present, which makes me excited for the next episode and sad. In the early 2000s, you wouldn’t consume an Anime series without hearing about the name of a Visual Kei band, either in anime news or in passing by some weeb (Otaku). Now it’s Togenashi Togeari from Girls Band and Keissoku Band from Boxchi The Rock. So much about Anime has changed.
The scene where Jiji needed to pee but couldn’t wash his hands because of the water, and Okarun had to help, made me emo just a bit. (I am realizing how wrong this sounds while writing this.) Just a brother helping another brother from another mother… I’d better not see laughing in your replies.
Momo’s circle of friends spared no energy to get Okarun to visit Momo at her first job.
So nice to see this place continue!
I love how you highlighted the balance between compassion and caution with Jiji. The exorcism scene sounded wild, and the community’s approach to Evil Eye feels refreshingly hopeful.

This episode was wild and so much fun to watch! ⚡ The over-the-top style and energy reminded me of rocking a leather shearling jacket bold, dramatic, and impossible not to notice.
