Winter 2026 Preview

<

The changing of the fall leaves and disappearing of pumpkin spice always heralds a start of the snow and sleigh bells on high. Not to be forgotten though? Anime, and lots of it. This winter isn't breaking with new years tradition, coming in hot (cold?) with over 50 new shows in some shape or form to look on in anticipation. Leading the pack comes the overwhelmingly awaited second season of elven fantasy Sousou no Frieren, followed up quickly by shounen sensation Jujutsu Kaisen's third kick at the anime can and dramatic entertainment extravaganza Oshi no Ko round three. Not to be forgotten either is the proper airing of Type Moon's Fate/strange Fake, finale season for Golden Kamuy, and the firefighting chaos of Enen no Shouboutai. Need a little more surprise in your Christmas stocking? Say hello to hard hitting drama Ikoku Nikki, the popcorn-first fantasy action Yuusha-kei ni Shosu, and the exceptionally cutesy romcom antics of Seihantai na Kimi to Boku. And if that wasn't enough under the tree lies some fun with sci-fi thriller Darwin Jihen, the possessive fantasy suspense of Eris no Seihai, and the knuckledusting superhero carnage that is Boku no Hero Academia Illegals. The days may be short and the weather exceptionally cold, but anime is always around to keep us warm and content. This is Random Curiosity's Winter 2026 Preview!

Spring 2025 Preview

It’s that lovely time of year when the scent of plum blossoms fades into the bloom of Sakura and Hanami are held all over Japan. Flowers are not the only viewing highlight, with the spring anime season also kicking off. Usually for anime, this is a full bloom season with a myriad of promising shows on the schedule. And this spring has many series worth getting excited for.

For one, we have quite a few series that could make quite the bang, based on the reputation of the creators. Fans of Watanabe Shinichiro will want to check out his sci fi thriller Lazarus and Detective Conan’s creator is in the spotlight with his time tripping, sword-wielding hero in Shin Samurai-den YAIBA. By far the biggest splash is sure to be made by the Boku no Hero Academia spinoff series, Shin Samurai-den YAIBAVigilante -Boku no Hero Academia ILLEGALS. Gundam fans are in hype mode with the latest addition to the universe in Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuux (if only we could figure out how to pronounce such a hodgepodge of letters). We also have a couple of much anticipated sequels in Kuroshitsuji -Midori no Majo-hen-, Aharen-san wa Hakarenai, and Enn Enn no Shouboutai San no Shou which should fill up some of that remaining empty space this season.

And with that, let’s take a closer look at the garden in bloom that is anime's latest spring season. This is Random Curiosity's Spring 2025 Preview!

Winter 2025 Preview

With the changing of the leaves out and snow and chill in you'd think we'd be gearing up for a lazy season - but anime has other intentions. New year intentions. As 2024 gives way to 2025 we've got a strong suite of shows to look forward to, whether it be the hotly awaited Solo Leveling sequel, the return of everyone's favourite Chinese apothecary in Kusuriya no Hitorigoto, the next Type Moon entry Fate/strange Fake, or the brand new upstarts in low-key hit-man adventure Sakamoto Days and sport-flavoured romcom Ao no Hako. Still rocking the isekai bug? Never fear because MAPPA original, animation meta Zenshuu, tokusatsu chique Sentai Red, the secretary themed Guild no Uketsukejou desu ga, the reverse isekai Nihon e Youkoso Elf-san, and the next big reincarnated villainess story in Akuyaku Reijou Tensei Ojisan have all your bases covered. Prefer truer fantasy? Take a look at the gritty and provocative revenge tale Übel Blatt and Dr. Stone's last great hurrah to whet the palate. And hey, if the hot chocolate hasn't run out and the fireplace is still going leave some room for the cutesy romance Honey Lemon Soda, figure skating aspirant Medalist, and the blast from the past harem work 100 Girlfriends to keep the comfy feeling going. Winters always suck for one reason or another, but anime is always around to keep the spirits high. This is Random Curiosity's Winter 2025 Preview!

Fall 2024 Preview

Summer may be fading as the school season, colder weather, and pumpkin spice lattes start kicking in, but in the world of anime things are only heating up. And by heating up I mean boiling. From a relatively quiet and lean summer we're entering a season of plenty, with no fewer than 57 shows looking to vye for eyeballs and attention both. Topping the autumn charts are numerous fan favourites, from the hotly anticipated return of isekai prodigy Re:Zero to the lesser alternate world adventures of SAO: Alternative, the dramatic soccer trials of Blue Lock and action fun of Dragon Ball DAIMA, and even the continuations of the epic Rurouni Kenshin, fantasy spelunking Danmachi, and Natsume Yuujinchou Shichi just to flesh out the procedings. Looking for new flames to further keep the days warm? Try out the sleek romcom Kimi wa Meido-sama, cyberpunk action-fantasy Maou 2099, techbro drama Trillion Game, or even the modern remake of romcom progenitor Ranma 1/2 for a bit of spice. In need of yet more on top? The lackadaisical fishing NegaPosi Angler, golf sweetheart Oi Tonbo, magical girl chique Mahoutsukai ni Narenakatta Onnanoko no Hanashi, and reincarnated villainess comedy Rekishi ni Nokoru Akujo ni Naru zo have you more than covered. And hey, if you still somehow have the time to indulge, don't let the latest rounds of idol shenanigans in Love Live and Idolmaster, the quirky supernatural comedy Dandadan, or workplace romcom hilarity of Kekkon suru tte, Hontou desu ka pass you by. The frost (and snow) may be nary a fortnight or two away, but anime is here to keep the warm and fuzzies for us going strong. This is Random Curiosity's Fall 2024 Preview!

Summer 2024 Preview

There are some things about summer that quickly become a nuisance- namely the heat and humidity. I have always found the best remedies to be a frosty drink from the fridge and some nice, cool ice cream. What goes perfectly with such frozen deliciousness? Here at Random Curiosity, the right answer is, of course, the season’s coolest anime! While the freezer may be a bit empty, as the anime offerings typically are fewer during this time of the year, there are still plenty to satisfy everyone. For starters, we have much anticipated sequels - in fact, it looks to be a summer dominated by sequels. The second season of the wildly popular idol twins pursuing fame and dark mystery in Oshi no Ko. The return of the rowdy, lovable Fairy Tail Guild crew in FAIRY TAIL 100-nen Quest. Then, the continuing emotional journey of the humans and katawara as they seek justice and life purpose in Sengoku Youko. Not to mention another addition to the Monogatari series with Off & Monster Season. If you are a fan of Code Geass, we also have a new expansion of this series’ wide universe with Dakkan no Rozé. One of the biggest (non-sequel) highlights of the summer looks to be Nige Jouzu no Wakagimi, Matsui Yuusei’s latest work, following the action packed history of a boy who ran away and the crazy friends and foes he meets. There's a big summer of leisure and enjoyment ahead of us. This is Random Curiosity's Summer 2024 Preview!

Shonen enjoyers are eating well too with Boku no Hero Academia and Kimetsu no Yaiba, side-by-side. Newer fare like Kaijuu 8-gou and Blue Archive aim to add some extra variety to the mix. Love is also on the menu with Tadaima, Okaeri, and Sasayaku You ni Koi wo Utau as standout selections that won’t fail to thrill. Winter 2024 Preview

Winter is here again at last. From subzero days and snowy weather (or blazing summer heat for our southern brethren) to the realization that, oh yes, it’s also a leap year - don’t forget about that! - we also have that one seasonal constant: anime. New anime. And lots of anime at that. There’s quite a few hotly anticipated shows on the horizon, whether it be the fantasy/isekai manhwa adaptation for Ore dake Level Up na Ken, the thriller-esque high school shenanigans of Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e, or the new romance favourite in Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu. In the mood for sequels? Have at the return of Ao no Exorcist, the second go-around for Urusei Yatsura, school parody Mashle, or the venerable Kingdom now into its fifth season. Don’t think adaptations are lacking either, as between ingenious cooking adventure Dungeon Meshi, crazy villainess-OP machine fusion Akuyaku Reijou Level 99, shounen upstart Ishura, and the next great ecchi tempest in >Mato Seihei no Slave, you won’t be lacking for options. And hey, if all that still isn’t enough, there’s a few interesting anime originals courtesy of Bones’ Metallic Rouge, cute girl slice of life Pon to Michi, and Meiji era historical Meiji Gekken: 1874. Short days and cold weather may make winter suck something fierce, but anime is here to help keep our spirits high! This is Random Curiosity’s Winter 2024 preview!

Fall 2023 Preview

You know fall is here when the days grow shorter, the mornings cooler, school starts up, and anime, well, comes on in force. And oh boy is it here in force. As if a sign to show why you never mess with fall anime no fewer than 58 (!) shows populate this season, with everything from tried and true fan favourites to hotly anticipated adaptations and even some very intriguing originals guaranteed to make their mark. If the return of multi-season titans in Dr. STONE, Tokyo Revengers, and SPY x FAMILY aren't enough to keep the hype train going, continuations to Goblin Slayer, Shield Hero, and Eminence in Shadow should more than do the trick. Need some adrenaline-fuelled pulp action to whet the appetite? Best be sure Dead Mount Death Play's second half, Yoko Taro's anime original battle royale KamiErabi, or the fantasy flavoured chaos of Ragna Crimson will more than meet the needs. Like things more on the down low? Give the eagerly awaited Sousou no Frieren a whirl, look into the manhua adaptation fun of Kikansha no Mahou wa Tokubetsu desu, or take a peek at the truly unknown OVERTAKE and Megumi no Daigo: Kyuukoku no Orange. And if that still isn't enough, there's always the harem hilarity of Kimi no Koto ga Daidaidaidaidaisuki na 100-nin no Kanojo, the dramatic historical Kusuriya no Hitorigoto, or the always pleasant countryside adventures in Mahoutsukai no Yome to round matters out. Fall might herald the beginning of winter for many, but when it comes to anime it could easily be a season for the ages. This is Random Curiosity's Fall 2023 Preview!
