Non Non Biyori Repeat – 03

「連休中にやる気を出した」 (Renkyuchu ni Yaruki wo Dashita)
“We Got Motivated During The Holiday Break”

Another week, another dose of some well needed Ren-chon with a shot of Natsumi’s antics.

Oh Natsumi..

Officially becoming the dumb one of the group, it didn’t take long for Natsumi to reveal just how enthusiastic she is about focusing on her studies. Ranging from caring somewhat and at least putting her name on the paper to not giving a damn and writing down whatever came to her mind first, I suppose you have to credit her for at least going all the way with the this whole shtick. While it’s a whole different story whether or not I personally enjoy these moments (three episodes in and we’ve already gotten a good amount of them), I suppose there’s some charm in seeing Natsumi just be herself.

On a side note, they say that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree and as much as Komari wants to flaunt herself as the smarter, more responsible sister, it looks like she isn’t doing all that much better. Poor Koma-chan always drawing the short end of the stick.

Responsible Educator

As I said in the preview, one of this show’s biggest draws for me is whenever I get to see Renge enter full-blown Ren-chon mode. And even though it’s a little difficult to give specific examples of when it happens, this week’s episode unleashed a true Ren-chon moment during the latter half. If I were to put it in words, it’s probably those moments where she somehow pulls out a distinctly different emotion from you than what you’re used to feeling. In this week’s case, it wasn’t the comedic aspect of highlighting Kazuho-nee’s flakey qualities as a teacher, but more of seeing Ren-chon act out of character. Something along the lines of just how serious she was about helping her sister become a teacher that could inspire her students instead of one that just sleeps all the time. All of which culminates into one of those memorable moments that you mentally bookmark when you want to show someone something from the show.

Looking Ahead

Three episodes in and it feels like we’re right where we left off from last season. Our core cast of characters have all been introduced and we even got a genuine Ren-chon moment – all-in-all pretty good if I must say so myself! Sure, things may be moving a bit slow, but I can already see things starting to ramp up. In any case, I’ll catch you guys next week where I hope we get to see some more epic Ren-chon moments.

P.S. Sorry for the somewhat late post guys! It’s been a long two and a half weeks of straight work and I think the exhaustion finally caught up with me, haha. Thanks for your understanding and I’ll see you around!

am i the only one that find non non biyori so underrated by many ? it’s so simple yet so good, which is a shame not many people could appreciate it

I can understand being lazy about cooking, but can’t she at least cut/peel the veggies?

I always hated those “Explain what the author meant…” type questions myself, always thought they were too subjective. Can’t remember anyone in a show pull a 0 on a test before, especially without being dinged on something technical like no name or shifting all of their scantron answers by a line. Better shape up a bit, Natsumi, or else you’ll end up like Kazuho…which makes me curious how she was when she was a student, since she did somehow become a teacher.

Kinda curious if the bro got his glasses back at some point during the test, looked like he was struggling there.

Love the entire cast, but Ren-chon being Ren-chon is the best.

As a Natsun fan, I love this episode. Ayaneru is the best.

I literally died when Natsunmi asked about the 0 on her test. I knew it was coming but the delivery of the line was just so good.

Renge’s the best whoosh. “My heart got subtracted.” This episode marks one of my favorites so far along with episode 9 of season one.

My knowledge of moonspeak sound effects isn’t up to snuff. Can someone explain for me the “shooko” or whatever that was that Ren-chon was doing at the midpoint eyecatch? Or was it just more of her deadpan antics?

The 2nd half of the episode with Nee-nee was so boring that I almost fell asleep. Even Ren-chon couldn’t save it.
