Summary and Thoughts

In addition to the first webisode of Suzumiya Haruhi-chan, Kadokawa also released their anime adoptation of the meme-approved Churuya-san 4koma series. It’s actually quite entertaining, in a mindless, “I don’t really care as long as Tsuruya is in it” kind of way.

For those who haven’t had the pleasure, the Churuya-san series documents a chibi-sized Tsuruya in her endless quest for smoked cheese. I don’t really know why it’s smoked cheese, but I do have to admit it’s quite a tasty choice. Especially with crackers.

I also don’t really know how to summarize something like this without completely destroying any semblance of humor or kawaii-ness, so I guess I’ll just say that it involves a trampoline, Kyon denying her cheese, getting smothered by a taxi seatbelt, Mikuru telling her to “google it”, Itsuki blowing hot air, getting her brilliant idea shot down by Haruhi, and receiving a typical non-answer from Nagato. Oh, and a lot of nyoro~n’ing.

I gotta say though, it’s my understanding that this entire Churuya-san thing spawned as a result of that scene with Tsuruya in the maid costume, where she says “dou, nyoro”. Then, some pretty funny Japanese guy created this Churuya character, and some years later, we have the original seiyuu voicing the animated version. Fan power!

    Seeing how Tsuruya (Or Chuuruya I suppose) is my favorite character.. I was happy to watch this. ~nyoron.

    I was somewhat put off by the computer generated 3D animation. Regular 2D animation would’ve looked better and truer to the original 4-koma.

    I was not as amused with this web episode as I was Haruhi-chan…probably because this was a one note repeated joke. However it was still amusing.

    well… I’m a fan of churuya, but when i see this animated, it’s rather boring actually… This is just adding voices to the comics. If they wanna turn a 4koma into an anime they should’ve done it like azumanga or lucky star. Can’t expect much from a youtube based broadcast i guess…

    This reminds me of Nana from the clone manga of Elfen Lied. Equally poorly-drawn, Hard luck leading character, etc.
