Kuroko no Basuke 3 – 09

「ナメんじゃねぇ!!」 (Namenjyane!!)
“Don’t Underestimate Me!!”

Life’s a constant battle of ups and downs, but only a fool plays the hand he’s dealt.

Kagami Overdrive

As much as we would all love to see Kagami enter the zone and pubstomp Kaijo’s entire team, I’m personally okay watching him demonstrate some of the new skills he’s picked up since the last time we’ve watched him play. Besides the immense pressure he brings as an individual needing a minimum of two people to barely hold him down, something that really impressed me was his ability to not do everything on his own. I don’t know about you but that sudden surprise pass to Teppei during a dunk felt so good to watch I couldn’t help but rewind the video a few times to re-watch it. From the slight movement in his eyes to the flick in his wrist, it was a beautifully done moment.

Kasamatsu The Captain

While Teppei may be known as the Iron Heart for his ability to act as his team’s anchor, I’m willing to bet Kasamatsu could give him a run for his money. While Kasamatsu might be a little vulgar and downright violent at times, you have to give him credit for being able to stabilize and pick up Kaijo as a whole every time they’re knocked down. Be it in the form of his powerful speeches or his ability to pick up on the small things during a game, I’m sure we all felt some of the pressure as he decided to change Kaijo’s strategy to an all-out attack in favor of trying to stop something that can’t be stopped.

General Impressions and Looking Forward

Compared to last week’s episode, it’s nice to see that there weren’t as many dips in the animation quality. Sure there may have been more static shots than usual but because of how seamlessly they were blended in, you barely had time to realize there wasn’t any moment because of how much action was packed in them.

That said, it wasn’t just in the animation where things picked up. The story seems to be on fire right now and two of the biggest characters aren’t even participating! Seeing how Kuroko’s been effectively shut down for the moment and Kise’s injury taking its toll, you can only wonder how things will play out as this match comes to a close. Judging from the preview though, it looks like next week is going to be big for both of them which hopefully means an exciting episode for us!

Catch you next week!

So Kuroko’s phantom shot isn’t so phantom after all. I’m sure he’ll come up with something better.

    • LeDouche vi Britannia

Kuroko needs to get his shit together. Getting blocked once is bad enough but twice in a game? C’mon Kuroko. Step your game up!

      • SexyNoJutsu

Have faith in Kuroko! I’m sure he’ll come up with better offensive moves. And I’m glad he is not that depressed about this, unlike in the previous seasons.

    • esdesu

That’s how things have always been They always give a more or less realistic explanations for their moves.

They definitely humanized Kaijo’s captain, Kasamatsu. And I agree Kise should really respect his senpai and even in the NBA the rookies always listen to the senior players.

    • chibi-killua

I knew it was only a matter of time till someone figured it out but honestly I expected it to be Akashi and his Emperor Eye, not Kasamatsu.

      • ford

Kasamatsu is a 3rd year. That means he’s got the experience to notice these things.

      • Kaye

Yeah, and he just recently learned to shoot in their last game (Yosein), and it gets stopped in the next game. Kuroko can’t seem catch a break.

    • Brian

I don’t think Kuroko will play again in this match, now that his phantom shot is ineffective. I doubt he can come up with something new so soon.

      • Just because one of his “weapons” is stopped DOESN’T MEAN it’s still ineffective.
A shot is still working when you have team mates to “screen” your opponents to support you.
You’ll see during the buzzer beater.

    • Slaine the Best Shooter (Captain of the Kuroko hype train)

I’m sure he’ll be back, that’s on the preview. He has about 2 minutes left on Perfect Copy. That should make the last moments of the game interesting.

    • Caspi

I wonder why it took this long for the coach to notice. Kise’s foot has been hurting for some time now and yet it’s being mentioned so late.

    • Andrew

That’s true. This will be an easy win for Kagami without Kise in the court.

We’re Kaijo! Don’t belittle us! I gotta say, Kaijo’s captain is so awesome.

    • Kenpachi Fried Chicken

Kasamatsu is the true meaning of a man.

    • Aschente

I never liked him before and I like him even less after this episode. :/

    • Really? I’ve liked Kasamatsu as one of the best KnB’s supporting characters.

Especially, during Kaijou vs. Toou Interhigh match. 🙂

      • Slaine the Best Shooter (Captain of the Kuroko hype train)

My best KnB supporter is probably Takao and Imayoshi, and my least is that apologetic mushroom from Too. I can’t stand that guy, he keeps apologizing for no reason.

      • esdesu

If I had to choose just one supporting character, it’d definitely be Teppei. I thought he was an idiot at first but I have the biggest respect for him after they played against Hanamiya’s team.

    • Kaye

My dear Kuroko is growing up right before my eyes. <3

    • Kagami won’t, because the Zone is a must during the next-day match against RAKUZAN! XO

  3. Klein

Lol at Kise’s introduction. That was kind of embarrassing. And yeah, Senpai Kasamatsu was badass this episode.

    • Cusack

I mean, come on, even Kagami and Kuroko could do nothing against Kise’s Perfect Copy. He is stronger than both of them combined. This would have been a definite Kaijo win if not for his injury.

      • Kenpachi Fried Chicken

Now hold on a minute. He may be stronger than normal Kagami but not Kagami in the zone.

    • potatogurl

Hard choice for me. If it were any other team, I would have cheered for them, but I still like Seirin more.

      • dfp396

        Kasamatsu is in the Senpai-Zone.

    • chibi-killua

It always sad when a team loses, even if it’s an enemy team. They work just as hard as and everyone else and it’s sad to see their hard work not pay off in the end.

    • Reece

I don’t think it’s odd, it’s more like the result of their hard work. They’ve evolved and improved through the countless games. From being the underdog to the top dog.

      • dfp396

And that’s a good thing. It’s about time for Seirin to be the top dog.

    • quinn

I’m someone who tends to support the underdog and I couldn’t help but root for Kaijo at the end. But there are no brakes on the Seirin train. Nothing can stop Kagami and Kuroko.

  4. Brian

This episode was good for Kaijo and Kasamatsu fans. Not a huge fan of the team but it’s great that Kaijo can play well even without Kise.

  5. 28paws

The preview has me so hyped. Do I see..
… Kise doing one of Kuroko’s passes. O.o

  6. quinn

When an episode is about to get epic, it ends. Typical KnB.
