Summary:
Finally done with school, Mayumi rushes out of the classroom, crashing into Rin. Hilarity ensues as her panties are in his face, but he’s clearly not interested. She gets invited to go with the group to the pool, but she declines, instead heading to the cafe Kareha works at to enjoy a dessert. However, having lost her wallet in the crash, she is unable to pay for it. Kareha decides that she should make up the money by working as a waitress. While putting on her uniform, she forgets where she threw her panties and ends up going out with no underwear on. More hilarity as she tries to prevent all of the guys in the cafe from seeing that she’s not wearing panties. But all of her efforts are for naught when a wind from outside blows her skirt up, giving everyone a view. On the way home, she runs into Rin who hands her the wallet and her panties.
Rewind to the beginning of the episode, but this time we’re following Benibara Nadeshiko-sensei. After she lets the kids off from school, she gives some advice to a girl who wants to be popular. She finds Mayumi’s wallet on the ground and gives it to Rin to return. Outside, she gets harassed by some guy, who she scares away by cutting in half his soda bottle. Over lunch with Asa at the cafe, she confesses that she prefers normal guys. She runs into Rin again at the front of the cafe, and Kareha gives them a bag with Mayumi’s panties to return. They can’t find Mayumi at home (her family’s bathhouse), so Rin goes off to look on his own. Sensei arrives home to hear a message on her machine from her mother, reads a marriage interview letter, exercises, cooks, eats, watches TV, and reads a book before deciding to head out again. She drives back to the bathhouse only to find Mayumi closing up. Mayumi decides to let her in, and the two share a bath together.
R-15 shots this week: Mayumi and Benibara-sensei.
I find the Mayumi stuff hilarious, probably cause its a refreshing dose of humor given that Mayumi hasn’t gotten much screen time so far. I pretty much laughed at all of the jokes making fun of how she doesn’t quite compare to the other girls. Plus, she had quite a few cute expressions. The Benibara-sensei half is comparatively a lot more peaceful. It’s good to get a glimpse into her life, but I bet this is about all we’ll see of it.
Stylistically, I liked how they showed two intertwining points of view of one day. Mayumi loses her wallet, which Benihana-sensei picks up, and gives to Rin. She meets Rin again and they both search for Mayumi before Rin goes off to look on his own. And the day ends with Mayumi and Benibara-sensei meeting up again anyway. I am also amused by how they use Sia’s father’s eating and sleeping habits as a frame of reference for time.
Overall, this is a fun episode that gives us a break from the romance. We return to the serious stuff next week with an episode that appears to be about Primula. Loli-pedo-fiends rejoice!
